Reading & reporting

Critical results,
never left waiting.

CIVIE helps radiologists flag critical and incidental findings, reach the ordering physician in one click, and track every result and recommended follow-up until it's closed.

Illustrative

Critical result · communication log

Critical
CT abdomen and pelvis w/ contrast · EDRead by Dr. R. Lee

“Acute appendicitis with a 3.4 cm periappendiceal abscess containing gas, concerning for perforation.”

  1. 10:42Flagged critical · suggested by the report tagger, confirmed by Dr. R. Lee
  2. 10:43Called Dr. A. Grant, ordering ED physician · one-click dial
  3. 10:45Read-back recorded · Dr. Grant repeated the finding
  4. 10:46Documented on the study and in the report
Loop closed · ready for quality review

The challenge

The finding is made.
The call isn't.

  • Hunting for the right physician. Radiologists spend minutes finding who ordered the study and how to reach them, in the middle of a list.

  • Incidental findings slip. Unexpected findings are mentioned in the report, then nobody makes sure they're acted on.

  • No proof it happened. When the communication isn't documented, the practice carries the risk.

Closing the loop

No result
left open.

Every critical and incidental result, from the radiologist's flag to a follow-up booked.

Watch it work

The critical result,
flagged as it's reported.

A real run of CIVIE's reporting models on a sample CT, starting where this page does: the report tagger marks the finding critical (appendicitis with an abscess) and names the key finding, so the critical-results workflow can start while the radiologist confirms it.

Dictated findings

CT ABDOMEN PELVIS W IV CONTRAST · Right lower quadrant pain, low-grade fever. Rule out abscess or diverticulitis.

  • The appendix is dilated to 13 mm with wall thickening and surrounding fat stranding. There is an appendicolith at the appendiceal base.
  • Adjacent to the appendiceal tip there is a 3.4 x 2.8 cm rim-enhancing fluid collection with a few locules of extraluminal gas.
  • Small amount of free fluid in the pelvis.
  • The liver, spleen, pancreas and adrenal glands are unremarkable. The gallbladder is normal.
  • Kidneys enhance symmetrically without hydronephrosis. 1.2 cm simple cyst in the left kidney.
  • No bowel obstruction. Scattered sigmoid diverticula without inflammation.
  • No pathologic lymphadenopathy. Lung bases are clear. No acute osseous abnormality.

Critical result check

Checking the dictated findings for a critical result…

Real output from CIVIE's reporting models (report drafting, impression and critical-finding tagging), on invented patient data. The replay is paced for reading; the response times shown are the real ones. Not for clinical use.
What we changed in this recording
  • Removed an unpaired ### marker the report service wrapped around its whole output, so only the lines it changed are highlighted.
