One archive.
Every image.
Keep your imaging history in one standards-based archive, whatever PACS or modality created it, and serve it to CIVIE PACS, other viewers and the care team.

One history
Four systems, four MRNs.One patient history.
A CT at Northside, older ones at Lakeshore and at a Lakeview PACS that’s being retired, a scanned letter and a clinic photo. Each system holds a piece under its own MRN. The archive keeps all of it, as standard DICOM and alongside it, under one.
Fictional patient and sample records, consistent with the PACS page’s study; MRNs and sources illustrative.
Lifecycle and retention
Kept by your rules, for as long as they say.
Your policies decide what moves to long-term storage, how long it’s kept and what’s held. Move the year to see her history follow them. Nothing is removed without your policy saying so.

One outage doesn’t takeher history with it.
A second copy is kept in a separate location and kept in sync. Access is controlled by role, and every view, query and share is logged, under HIPAA and a business associate agreement.

How it connects
Native where it matters.
Open everywhere else.
A vendor-neutral archive is only neutral if anything can read from it. On the CIVIE platform, the archive shares one record with CIVIE PACS. Next to the systems you keep, it speaks DICOM, HL7 and IHE XDS-I.
- Native: part of the CIVIE platform, sharing one record
- Open standards: connects to systems from any vendor
Whole platform: CIVIE VNA exchanges data both ways with Modalities (DICOM), Legacy archives (DICOM query/retrieve), Documents and photos (Document import), CIVIE PACS (Same record), Other PACS and viewers (DICOM), EHR (XDS-I · HL7).

FAQ
Archive questions,
answered.
An image archive that stores studies in standard formats, mainly DICOM, independently of any one PACS or viewer. Any compliant system can read from it, so a change of PACS doesn't mean another image migration.
